★ May 2, 2019 How can the board stop members of KFA from meeting
when we pay assessments to pay for these facilities? We have every right
to use any hall we see fit to use. Is our community becoming a
dictatorship? It is incredible that this is happening in our
friendly community. Joan "poppy"
★ May 1, 2019 issue of the Sun Times Newspaper General Manager
John Millar's message includes
the following (restated as a positive): For the purpose of repairing,
maintaining or restoring any existing improvement, any "officer" or the
board of directors can spend up to $1,000,000 without any vote by the
members of the community.
★ To keep spreading the message of keeping fountain of the
sun affordable is the main message we need to emphasize right now.
★ If the board tries to not approve KFA meetings, why don't
we have a meeting anyway? KFA must not allow the board to dictate to us.
We have the right to have a meeting anytime we want one. Send an email
to the board saying they are impeached and that thay are no longer in
charge of anything.
★ I think it's time we talk to someone at the AG's office.
The board has no business trying to keep us from our rights of free
speech and assembly.
★ Sharon asked: How can the board just change by-laws
without approval of the community.
★ Do we need changes or to recall some board members?
We don't work for them. They [are supposed to] work fo us.
★ Anyone should be able to advertise in the Sun Times; and
everyone should have the right to be heard at meetings. Isn't this
the First Amendment so cherished in America? I support finding
a lawyer to discuss FOSA changing the by-laws, and talk to the Arizona
AG as suggested at a previous meeting.
★ The board's attitude seems unchanged with their all to
familiar tactics. At some point legal action may be required to get
the board back in line. We have lived here more than 20 years and this
board is totally out of control. Reasoning with them is futile.
★ A hat load of hogwash by this board of directors.
★ Well [expletive]. Should we put our home up for sale now?
Or wait till HOAs go up?
★ I just spoke with a guy who made chalk marks on the street
mapping out speed bumps. He said, "They don't have to have our approval
on this because of the merger. He also talked about arming the security
company with radar guns so they can start giving tickets to speeders."
What do you know about this? Is this true?
The most troubling part, is the attitude reflected in the statement:
"They don't have to have our approval on it because of the merger."
The board seems to have the attitude that they can do anything they
[blank] want to do with no accountability or consultation / communication /
or consent of the community.
★ The reaction of the board toward KFA is disappointing.
It certainly makes freedom of speech difficult. The more calm and
practical we are, the more outrageous they seem to react. This shows
their true colors. Think of a spoiled child having a tantrum. We need
to stay calm and hope that they calm down or realize that they look
a bit foolish. It is great that there is now a watch dog group for the board.
★ The problem is that the board does not want recognize
the Keep Fountain of the Sun Affordable Coalition as a valid group.
★ I don't know why the board is doing this unless it
is a "Gestapo" move because of fear of the unknown.
★ KFA has tried to do things the correct way and it hasn't
worked. Why not attend the board work session and ask them about all
this in front of those present?
★ What the heck are they thinking? Are they trying to stop
KFA meetings from happening. We think they should be put on notice
that it is not acceptable for them to try to block KFA meetings.
★ We all know what they are doing, which is trying to put and
end to the KFA initiative. Why is the KFA application to hold meetings
in the Activity center "under review" by the board? I think everyone
should send emails to the board to ask about this. If they try to reject
our use of the AC, we might need to take legal action. They act like
they own FOS and want to run it like a dictatorship.
★ What about postal mailing the plans that the board is
proposing to all homeowners? Many residents don't use email so mail
would be forwarded to them in their home state. -Poppyseed
★ Thank you for the information and using the YouTube for videos.
Those of us owners who cannot be there appreciate it. -Elizabeth Bradley
How about taking up a collection to get all those "planners" to move to
another place where they already have those things. I have to protect my
property and all my friends. Isn't there a law that all correspondence
has to be read at a board meeting? -Lizz
★ Any funds allocated for a project
should have a time limit as to when the project must be started and finished.
Currently, there are plans to install a resident gate in the right lane
coming in from Broadway/ 80th Street. It is my understanding that the gate
was voted on 2 years ago but not purchased at that time. The install is now
being scheduled and the money for that purchase will be due. Please reconsider
the recommendation and request to set time limits for projects. -Marcy Dupuis
★ The purpose of video-recording meetings is: First, for transparency:
to make everything that is said and done equally accessible
for every home-owner to see and hear; as well as to ensure that Freedom
of Speech is not silenced, stifled, or abridged.
One of the questions almost universally voted "Yes" on the KFA
Questionnaire was this: "Do you agree that all FOS board meetings
and community forums should be video recorded (along with complete
transcripts published), to give all home-owners equal access?"
It is important that more home-owners be better informed on all
issues ... and to get more to actively participate and speak up
and let their voices be heard.
To respect those who are camera shy and prefer to remain anonymous,
the camera will be focused on a very limited area at the front.
Everyone who wants to speak in the meetings will be asked to come
to the front. And those who wish to remain anonymous can jot down
their questions, suggestions, and concerns on a 3x5 card and submit
them to be read.
★ March 4 A proposed letter
DRAFT was read at this
meeting and is being considered to be sent to the FOSA board of
directors ... at some point.
38 of the 44 people at that first "KFA" meeting immediately
signed that letter. Some felt that we should collect more
signatures before sending it.
Some felt that the letter should be made even "more powerful"
in demanding the board's attention.

I am a renter here, and don't really have a voice, but my son
owns the house here. I would just say that houses built in the
80's and manufactured homes (no matter how nice they are), will
never make this a high end community, no matter what the facilities are.
People who wish to add all these questionable modifications
should maybe move to a high end community such as Las Sendas.

We have been Fountain of the Sun homeowners for two years.
When we purchased our home, we knew exactly what amenities were.
We wanted a gated community and FOS had everything that we wanted.
We would own the property and it was one of the most affordable HOAs.
Unfortunately, it feels like the proposed Master Plan is being
crammed down our throats; and we, along with many other homeowners
we know, feel that the wool is being pulled over our eyes during
the summer when many homeowners go back to their summer homes,
and are not really aware of what is going on with the FOSA board.
When we return, it seems things are pretty much a done deal.
Amazing how that works! The merger never should have legally passed,
or did it? They tell us it did, but we are not convinced. How
can FOSA be called a non-profit? Or is it? Can the board of
directors be impeached? Or what recourse do homeowners have?
We need to watch them like a hawk.
★ Feb 12 Janet and Steve Mees wrote:
We asked at a board meeting if the costs associated with the master plan would be on the online survey and we were told, yes they would. But they were not.
We would all the like the best of everything! I think the majority of the people would rethink their answers when they realize how much it affects their pocketbooks!!! That is why we wanted costs associated with each and every phase on the survey.
We are tired of being told that the board works for the majority, or that we have to keep up with newer 55+ communities or our home values will go down! It seems to me there very few homes for sell in Fountain of the Sun and they sell quickly if priced right.
You can't tell us that more than 1/2 of the residents are going to use tennis courts and pickle ball courts and that everyone is more than happy to pay for them!
My husband and I would be happy to help fight the lack of transparency and non-majority initiatives that are going on currently with our board. It feels like a dictatorship when everyone's views are not taken into account.
We moved here because:
1. The HOA fees were reasonable
2. FOS was well maintained.
3. We found a home with a green area behind it that was reasonably priced.
As soon as we got here the HOA fees started going up 10% a year! This board has now stopped watering the retention basins.
Now we are being told we will have to pay millions for several phases of improvements that are not necessary or wanted which will put us in debt. There are many solutions that are WAY cheaper than those proposed.
We are willing to use our skills to help in this effort to keep board affairs transparent, fair, and reasonable. The fact that the board was able to increase our HOA fees at their discretion proves that the board is not paying attention to the home-owners like they should.
Now that it's affecting their pocketbooks, I think residents are now starting to realize what power they voted to give the board. Something needs to be done to make sure that our HOAs are reasonable and we don't even up with things we don't need or want.We do not feel the Board is for the majority interest.
PS: All of our neighbors who border a retention basin feel the same way we do! We do not want noisy parks back there!
