★ August 9, 2019 at 7:58 AM, FOSA announced a meeting for 1:00 PM that same day. 21 people showed up and a decision was made to recommend increasing a previously "budgeted" $90,000 to remodel the Admin building up to $250,000.

A "Special" board meeting was also announced for 5 days later, August 14 at 10:00 AM at which the board voted to approve the increased spending.

Only 50 to 60 home-owners were present at that board meeting. No vote of home-owners was considered.

There are 3,000 to 4,000 home-owners in the FOS community with no voice in these FOSA board decisions.

None of the pertinent documents presented on the overhead projector screen had been published for all home-owners to see and consider.

★ Oct 16, 2018   This question was posted: "Is a 10% annual increase in FOS assessments widely supported?"

No, I do not support an automatic 10% annual increase. If a project is considered it should be discussed with the community. -Susan Frieh

When we moved to Fountain of the Sun in 2016, our association dues were $582 a year and they stayed the same in 2017. In 2018, they increased to $640. For 2019, we were billed $919. Almost doubled in 3 years. -Patricia Lowder

I feel 10% is too high. The majority of us are on fixed incomes and the cost of everything keeps going up, however, our social security does not. -  Andy Anderson

Not in support of a 10% increase. There are plenty of economies of scale to be realized once the merger is completed. It may take a new/aggressive FOSCA/FOSHA Manager to make this community great again. -Al Laehn

I do not support a 10% increase to the assessment. The board needs to watch the budget and not just give carte blanche to the manager to spend spend spend. And board as whole needs to watch the purse strings as if they were paying for it out of their own pocket-because in a sense you are.

I would gladly vote to get another manager ... things over the years would not have gotten voted in had it gone to a community vote. The amount of money spent without direction from the board is ridiculous. It needs to be lowered back down.

Can't just spend our money for a few people living in the park. Instead of doing what's right for the WHOLE community. -Bev Anzelmo

We do not support a 10% increase in annual fees. -Ruth & Bob Yerkes

We are against the 10% raise in dues as well as this merger. The merger gives way to much power to the board. They have pushed this merger through even though the condos voted against it. It was supposed to be null and void if there was not a 100% approval. We need board members who will fight for the full time home owners. -Larry and Sandra Lewandowski

First I heard of it, maybe it did NOT go thru? -Lee Townsend

This is the first I've heard about a 10% increase, and, no, I am not happy about it. However, I guess we knew that with the current Board, there will always be a maximum allowed increase. The term budget has a different meaning for the board. -Sharon Robertson

I object to any increase in our dues. After all, we are seniors and we do not have the opportunity to make more money. Doctor bills, food, and property taxes are enough to handle. -Phyllis Mast

I am totally against the 10% increase, being single, retired, fixed income, cost of living going up yearly, medications, insurance etc. The majority voted against the merger. Then October see it is moving forward. Just shows you who is in control of our lives in FOS, the board. -Patty White

You might want to check the facts. 82% approved the merger. What do you think a "fair" increase to the $768 annual assessment to operate our FOSCA would be? -Larry Shima

That was 82% of those who voted. Not a full community vote. Tell the whole story not part of it. -Mike Royce

How do you propose to get all to vote? They were all sent a ballot like the rest of us. So if they don't vote must be they don't care! 82% is darn good. -Vickie Osborne

That is the whole point. If people aren't going to participate or even vote, they have nothing to complain about. -Mike Royce

I think the board members are doing their jobs just fine. However, I am disappointed with talk of a 10% increase. I thought that the merger would in fact lower operating costs. I would expect it (dues) to rise at the current inflation rate, typically 2.5 to 3%, per year. I think we are closer to $868 now rather than 768. I am a little disappointed that 10% (increase) would be needed. I think 3% a year covers inflation. And, with the, our operating costs should be going down, not up. -Don Loewen

Board members have come out and said that they want 10% increases every year. -Mike Royce

For 2018 FOS dues I paid $789 for the year. A 10% increase [every year would grow like this]: $868, $955, $1051, $1156, $1272, $1399, $1513, $1664. That is close doubling the dues in eight years. And could there also be a Special Assessment lurking on the horizon? -Don Blume

Larry posted good reasons for HOA increases. Although, I looked at our budgets and the repair, maintenance, and replacements looked like they were well covered with good management and policies from past and present boards. What is not covered is new projects. Once the merger is completed and budget realigned, we should easily live within our current HOA assessments as long as they are adjusted to keep up with inflation. Capitol costs will have to be approved by all of us as a separate issue. -Don Loewen

I am not in favor of a 10% increase either. We all need to attend the meetings and not rely on gossip. -Pat Meyer
